Due to the overwhelming event registration so far for the 40th Adelaide Marathon, the South Australian Road Runners Club (event organisers) have consulted with Don Wallace – IAAF – AIMS Course Measurer, regarding course and participation safety.
“After speaking with Race Director, Ben Hockings about SARRC’s increase in participation at events this year we have discussed the safety of runners for this special 40th Marathon Event. In my capacity and experience as a Course Measurer and Runner, I have advised the entrant numbers be capped to ensure participation safety, which is in line with other events like the Gold Coast Marathon, Don Wallace said.
Ben Hockings also commented “SARRC aims to be inclusive to all participants of all abilities and this course capping will also ensure all entered athletes will receive the Adelaide Marathon Festival Bib and Finishers Medal for the 10, 21 and 42km events”
The Marathon is capped at 600 participants and the Half marathon at 1300 with 50% of entries already been allocated. Capping for the 10km has been set at 600 with 40% of entries already allocated. Other events including the Kids Fun Run and 5km event are not capped.
SARRC’s General Manager, Cassandra Liebeknecht is still in discussions with the Adelaide City Council regarding the 2019 event course to ensure future growth potential of the City’s Flagship Marathon Event.
